Purdue swimming

On Saturday, we were getting more video of the swim team at the Big Ten meet.   Even though we were doing video 90% of the time, I said I didn’t want to skip trying to get a few photos… so for just two heats (the breast stroke and the freestyle), we used two 580ex2 speedlights and lit the pool from opposite sides.    The first few are taken without flash, and a few were taken with just one side firing (the backlit ones).

You can buy prints of these in my store.

This last one is my fav, an uncropped tight shot of just the Purdue “P”, a shoulder, and some backlit water.   I love the color and light and detail – the closeness.  It almost says more with less.   The next time I shoot a meet, I will do 100% photos!  :)   Stay tuned for the video piece in hopefully a few weeks.  Have to finish some other things first.

Tech info: These were taken with the Canon 70-200 2.8 IS, usually at 1/250th or 1/400th sec., iso400, f2.8.   The 580s were triggered with Cybersyncs.   I was shooting with the 7D because I was shooting 60fps video….
