This was a really fun and challenging assignment I had a couple weeks ago. Gridiron Communications does a lot of political publications, and Rep. Todd Rokita needed a prospectus booklet that highlighted their progress in fighting against overregulation by the federal government. So these are mostly profile photos, often managers at a small business in Rep. Rokita’s district — with some additional photos that show the business or issue.
Here are some examples: a law that forbids minors from working on farms; making it easier to transfer distance education courses and credit across Indiana; additional tax burden on healthcare products manufacturing; a regulation about making all new street/traffic signs with more reflective coating (something the city of Monticello can’t afford right now, so they changed it to all new signs needing better coating).
I hope I didn’t butcher any of those issues :\
It was a lot of driving around Indiana, but I love a little adventure. Often I had little control over .. anything (weather, timing, access, lighting, etc.) and had to make the best images I could in about 30 minutes, with strangers, in a new place, etc. I was channeling every bit of Joe McNally’s stories of ‘just make a picture’-ness.
But the designers, and the Rokita staff, were all really pleased with the results, so I’m glad it worked out! Here are a few of the keepers:
