Kathleen & Matthew, wedding

I can’t remember how long it’s been since I blogged a wedding, but I’ve had some great ones so far in 2015.  Kathleen and Matthew’s wedding in Lafayette was the inspiration I needed to start blogging some weddings again, so here goes! Hope you enjoy it even a fraction of how fun it was in person… Coordinator: Audra Hair & Makeup: Lauren & Morgan Church: St. Boniface Reception: Family Sports Center Band:  Naked Karate Girls Photobooth & Photographer:  Brian I think he said something like, “She’s mine! You can’t have her!”  :) I love Matt’s tie (below).   Blue and green are my favorite …

single shot: rainy couple

Sometimes when I’m going out on a shoot without an assistant, and I have to walk around a few locations where a roller bag doesn’t work (or is too big to bring into Wrigley Field!), I try to pack as much potential into my shoulder bag as I can.   Here’s what I brought: A photo posted by Brian Powell (@brianpowell) on Aug 21, 2014 at 9:17am PDT This collapsible 43″ umbrella from Wescott packs down so small, I never leave for a shoot without it now.  On an engagement shoot in Chicago, it was raining off and on — …

Lighting for Weddings: wrap-up and review

Hey all; I just wanted to review some things we did at the workshops this spring.  This post will focus on the wedding lighting workshop, and then I’ll do another wrapup on the Speedlight Workshops from NYC and Indy.  Stay tuned for workshop info for Orlando on July 27 (registration this week), and Philly on September 20 (registration in July).  It’s bound to not rain one of these times! Let’s get right to it: BOUNCING FLASH is one of the most indispensable lighting techniques you can have in your events bag.  And I’m not talking about those silly little cards and flags people attach …

model test with Brad

Brad signed with Sigal Models (Ohio) and needed to start building a portfolio.  I think this was only his 2nd shoot ever?  It was good practice for both of us, and we snuck in some normal headshots as well.  Here are my favorite frames:
