Let’s play “Guess The Lighting Source!”

This is for a talk/demo I’m doing at Purdue on Thursday.  Just thought I’d post them here instead of using Powerpoint (*shiver*) or bringing a flash drive.  Watch the live stream here! Your choices are, ordered from less light to more (usually): only available light (ambient) speedlights (small flash), strobes (studio heads), all of the…

Photographer’s hangout #1

Our first, inaugural, maiden voyage on the virtual hangout train was a success!  We have the technology figured out, and even tried to keep on a theme  ;) Inspired by Trey’s hangout sessions and Peter Hurley’s Ustream videos, I put together a hangout on Google+ with some photographers that I know.  Hopefully this will be…

Wesley Jen - I’m so sad that I missed this last night. I look forward to joining the discussion next Tuesday!

before and after: snowy twilight

[Part of the 'before and after' series] Now “snowy twilight” sounds all nice, but let me tell you:  it was frigid and the light was fading fast.  This was also at the end of probably a record-length engagement shoot, but Nicci & Kyle were troopers.  The hot chocolate stop may have helped :)  They’re getting…

Breanna & Nathan, wedding

What a beautiful way to end 2011:  a winter wedding near Christmas  :)   Breanna & Nathan had their engagement shoot at John Adam’s Mill, and their evening ceremony was an equally historic church from the 1860s.   There are definitely a few more all-time-favorites in here for me, besides the Camaro shot!  Congrats again…

Carleen Rose - Great pictures. Beautiful church. Loved the sparklers!

I am so sorry Jim and I could not attend. Long story but our
lives took an unexpected turn. All is well now.
I would have looked at these pictures sooner if I had realized
they were posted.

Best wishes for years and years of life together. Jim and I
have been married for 56 years. Life is good.
Love to you both.

Vintage #9

Here is another photo in the vintage series I’ve been blogging.  This one is another print I found at the antique shop next to the BBQ place I used to stop at in Concordia, MO (near Kansas City), on the way to and from college in Kansas (the shop has since closed.  We stopped there…

Mrs Marvel - I am quite tardy in replying to your comment on my site, but I wanted to come around and see this photo. She is quite an unhappy looking woman isn’t she!? I love it though. As for the size of the photograph, a 4×6 was called a cabinet card. I have old photo albums that are made to stand up, like a cabinet. The photos could be viewed individually or two by two, depending on how the album was arranged. The cabinet card really took off in the 1870s and dominated through the 1890s. After the turn of the century they declined and so did cdvs, to be replaced with something more like what we think of as our graduation photos. Thank you for your comment and I will be checking back to your vintage series!!

bp - Thanks for stopping by and for the insight, Mrs. Marvel! :)
