Starting to edit the wedding from last weekend, and here’s one of the shots I tried. Just not sure which version to stick with. I like them all, but I have a favorite. Do you? Leave a comment!
Black and White:

The story: I used the mirrored centerpiece at the reception tables near the natural light coming in the doors to the balcony. Put some votives behind, and use shallow DOF with my new 70-200 IS, and viola. I wanted to stand them both up, to look like interlocking circles, but Wes’ ring wouldn’t stand :( I like this one though. Below you can see the setup shot that I used to practice with a pat of butter – before they made it to the table with the rings. I told the remaining 2 or 3 people at that table they didn’t have to leave – but they all stood up and then I had a small crowd gathering around to watch me work. I’m sure they were confused by the butter :)

Mark Poshak - I like the sepia tone, actually. Makes it look like actual silver, versus just black and white.
We have one coming soon from a wedding we just did in Toronto with a mirrored center piece and a magnified filter. excited to get it edited.
bp - Sweet :) Send me a link – I’m sure you did better than I did here. Just starting to get away from the hands-on-rings shots and try more creative things with them.. Wait, how’d you connect with Toronto from CA?
Chelsey Gerlach - I like the sephia tone!
Michael Meeks - B+W
tracy spiess - True white balance, slight desaturation. looks like a water color. very elegant. never a fan of ‘sepia tone’ (but seem to be the lone opinion on that option!)
bp - I actually had that one pegged as my slight favorite – I like the way the rings look in the other versions, but overall I like the desaturated color image. You get some green, yellow, pink, and blue in that image. But maybe if the focus is the rings, then the monochromatic versions are stronger; this is why I was torn!
Sierra - True White Balance! Love it! The Black and White one is pretty good too. Although the Sepia would be great for some “older” looking photos. GREAT PIC!!!
